The Prague Gate belonged to the original town fortification. Construction probably began in the late 13th century (the fortification was mentioned in Pemysl Otakar II.s document from the year 1274 ). The towns fortification was reconstructed during the Hussite wars and remains of it have been preserved since that time. The town was accessible through two gates; the Prague and the Elbe. The Elbe gate and most parts of fortification were destroyed in the 19th century.
An interior reconstruction of the upper two floors took place in 1997 thus creating a room suitable for the gallerys activities. On the fifth floor there is a glassed-in room with a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
